Everyone already knows it’s important to drink a sufficient amount of water. But what for, exactly? And how much is a “sufficient amount”? 

Aside from breathing oxygen, water is the most important thing our body needs to survive. You can die within as little as three days due to a lack of proper hydration. As a personal trainer (Certified by AAAI & ISMA) I tend to drink a full gallon of water every single day! (128 fl oz)

Then again, I go to the gym and train consistently 4-5 days a week. The more active you are, the more water you should drink. Not everybody wants to lug around a whole gallon of water with them everywhere they go.

A good rule of thumb is to just have 1 fluid ounce of water per 1/2 pound of bodyweight. If someone weighs 200 lbs, for example, they should consume at least 100 fl oz on a daily basis. This is already almost 80% of a gallon!
